Karen Pierson of Town & Country Golf Links
Dear Jane and Walsh family- Ed was such a dear friend to all of us at Town & Country Golf Links and such a constant presence at our golf course, that I cannot begin to express how deeply he will be missed. Ed shared so many interesting stories about his past and of his family that I personally felt I had known him his entire life. Never a day went by that he didn't pop his head into my office for a quick hello or goodbye if we didn't have the time for conversation. Ed once brought me an old set of clubs he found at a yard sale, plus dozens of old golf balls from his days of caddying at Merion (along with some great caddying stories) which I will fondly cherish. I most especially will always remember the time I invited him to golf with me at the prestigious Atlantic City Country Club, (where the term "Birdie" originated) for a golf course owner's meeting. It was approximately ten years ago, and the meeting was about the future of text messaging which was completely unfamiliar to all of us back then, but we had to attend the meeting first in order to play the course afterward. Mid-meeting I had to excuse myself to take an important phone call and in my absence Ed jotted down notes for me. I'm sure he understood little of what he was writing because frankly neither did I, but it was important to him that I have the information and warmed my heart that he thought to do so. Afterward we had lunch and a fun round of golf, which was the only time I've played golf with Ed, and boy what a fantastic golfer he was-and competitive too, which I'm sure his golfing buddies can attest to! I gained a lot of great tips on the course from him that day. I only wish I had the chance to say good-bye or sit and have another of our chats before he left this earth, for it's those conversations I will miss the most. Our deepest sympathies are with you all for losing such a wonderful man...he will truly be missed by myself and everyone here at Town & Country Golf Links!
